  • Children who are malnourished – especially in the first 5 years of life – will suffer from stunting – including stunting of the brain. This permanently impacts the intellectual of those individuals. Saving children from malnutrition is investment in the next generation of Somalis.
  • SAACID has worked with the Somali Federal Government, as well as Somali regional and local governments, to ensure that severely malnourished children suffering from secondary health complications, mother and child vaccinations are delivered in a timely manner.
  • SAACID did this by employing poor Somali women who have been trained to operate in their local communities and identify malnourished children and provide education to local families.
  • SAACID has treated over 662,000 malnourished children; and have provided ancillary services in mother and child vaccinations; pregnant and lactating specialist care; infant and young child feeding education; community outreach education and case identification.

These services were live saving and life changing.
